Carer’s Allowance is normally paid on a Monday, weekly in advance or every 4 weeks, as you choose. There is no published calendar of payment dates, and that absence is worth knowing. What GOV.UK publishes instead is a choice of frequency, a rule for what happens when your date lands on a bank holiday, and the list of bank holidays the rule applies to. Put together, those three tell you every date that will move between now and the end of 2027.
How can I check my own Carer’s Allowance payment dates?
There is no online account that shows Carer’s Allowance payment dates. GOV.UK’s Check your benefits and State Pension payments service, added in October 2026, covers Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit and State Pension, among others, but not Carer’s Allowance (GOV.UK, Check your benefits and State Pension payments, checked 30 October 2026). Your dates come from the DWP’s letter, your bank statement, then the Carer’s Allowance Unit.
The claim-form notes say the DWP will tell you when the first payment is coming and how much it is for (GOV.UK, claim form notes, checked 1 November 2026). After that, the day the money reaches your account is the record: normally a Monday, weekly or every 4 weeks, unless a bank holiday moves it, which the table below covers. If the letter has gone and the statement does not settle it, ring the Carer’s Allowance Unit on 0800 731 0297, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm (GOV.UK, Contact the Carer's Allowance Unit, checked 1 November 2026).
If you get State Pension, there may be no Carer’s Allowance payment dates to check. GOV.UK says that if your pension is £86.45 a week or more, you will not get a Carer’s Allowance payment, and if it is less, you will get a payment to make up the difference (GOV.UK, Carer's Allowance: eligibility, checked 1 November 2026).
How often is Carer’s Allowance paid, and is it my choice?
GOV.UK says you can choose to be paid Carer’s Allowance weekly in advance or every 4 weeks, into an account such as your bank account (GOV.UK, Carer's Allowance, checked 1 November 2026). Its guide to how benefits are paid shows Carer’s Allowance as the only benefit offered weekly in advance (GOV.UK, How and when your benefits are paid, checked 1 November 2026).
The amount does not depend on the choice. At £86.45 a week for 2026/27 (GOV.UK, Carer's Allowance, checked 1 November 2026), a four-weekly payment is £345.80, and a year of either adds up to the same figure. The notes booklet is more precise than the guide about what the four weeks are: one week in advance and three weeks in arrears (GOV.UK, Carer’s Allowance claim form notes, checked 1 November 2026). Our how much page covers the rate, the tax treatment and the earnings limit that decides whether anything is paid at all.
| Option | Where it applies | When it is paid |
|---|---|---|
| Carer’s Allowance, weekly | England and Wales | Weekly, in advance |
| Carer’s Allowance, every 4 weeks | England and Wales | One week in advance and three weeks in arrears |
| Carer Support Payment | Scotland | Every 4 weeks, at the end of the 4 weeks |

Which suits you turns on what else is arriving and when. A household budgeting around a four-weekly State Pension may prefer the matching rhythm; one paying weekly bills may prefer the weekly option. You choose between weekly in advance and every 4 weeks, so it is worth deciding which suits your bills.
What day of the week is Carer’s Allowance paid?
The DWP normally pays Carer’s Allowance on a Monday, according to the notes booklet that comes with the DS700 claim form. The DWP will also tell you when the first payment is coming and how much it is for (GOV.UK, claim form notes, checked 1 November 2026). The GOV.UK guide itself does not name a day.
If you have lost the letter and cannot see the pattern, the Carer’s Allowance Unit is on 0800 731 0297, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Our Carer’s Allowance phone number and opening times page has the full details, including the one kind of call GOV.UK says not to make.
Does a bank holiday move the payment date?
If your Carer’s Allowance payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday, GOV.UK says you will usually be paid on the working day before (GOV.UK, How and when your benefits are paid, checked 1 November 2026). The word “usually” is GOV.UK’s, so treat a moved date as likely rather than certain.
Applying that rule to the published bank holidays for England and Wales gives every date that can move. The first two columns below are GOV.UK’s; the third is the rule applied to them.
| Bank holiday | Date | A payment due that day is usually paid on |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Day | Friday 25 December 2026 | Thursday 24 December 2026 |
| Boxing Day (substitute day) | Monday 28 December 2026 | Thursday 24 December 2026 |
| New Year’s Day | Friday 1 January 2027 | Thursday 31 December 2026 |
The table lists the three bank holidays around Christmas 2026 that can move a Carer’s Allowance payment. Our payment shifter lists every Monday bank holiday that moves a Carer’s Allowance payment through 2028. The full list through December 2027, Easter and the May and August holidays included, is on our benefit payment dates page, which applies the same rule to every DWP benefit and carries the State Pension day-of-the-week table beside it.
Dates from GOV.UK’s bank holiday list, UK bank holidays for England and Wales, checked 11 October 2026. Scotland has different bank holidays, but Carer’s Allowance is not the benefit paid there; see below. Northern Ireland has two more in this period, St Patrick’s Day on Wednesday 17 March 2027 and Monday 12 July 2027 (GOV.UK bank holidays, UK bank holidays, checked 1 November 2026), and Carer’s Allowance there is run by the Department for Communities, which says you can choose weekly or every four weeks (nidirect, Carer's Allowance, checked 1 November 2026).
Christmas 2026 runs Friday to Monday with no working day in it, so a payment due on any of those four days, including the weekend, moves to Thursday 24 December. And an early payment is the same money on an earlier day, not an extra one: the following payment arrives on its usual date, so the gap after an early payment is longer by the days it was brought forward. Since Carer’s Allowance is normally paid on a Monday, a payment due on 28 December arrives four days early, and the gap after it is four days longer.
The Christmas Bonus is separate from those dates. It is a one-off, tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas to people who get Carer’s Allowance or certain other benefits in the qualifying week, normally the first full week of December, and you do not need to claim it (GOV.UK, Christmas Bonus, checked 1 November 2026).
What arrives first
The first payment after a successful claim can include arrears, because a claim can be backdated by up to 3 months (GOV.UK, Carer's Allowance: make a claim, checked 1 November 2026). GOV.UK does not publish how long a decision takes, so we do not either. Once the claim is decided, the frequency you chose starts from the award.
Where is Carer’s Allowance paid?
Carer’s Allowance is usually paid straight into a bank, building society or credit union account, and you give the details when you claim. GOV.UK says you can only be paid a different way if you have problems opening or managing an account (GOV.UK, How and when your benefits are paid, checked 1 November 2026). Ask the Carer’s Allowance Unit.
Scotland is paid on a different rhythm
Carer’s Allowance is not paid in Scotland. Carer Support Payment, which replaces it there, is paid every 4 weeks, at the end of the period. Weekly payment in advance is available if you, or the person you care for, has a terminal illness or already gets another benefit under the special rules for terminal illness (mygov.scot, https: //www.mygov.scot/carer-support-payment, checked 1 November 2026).
One payment covers the whole package: Carer Support Payment, the £11.70 a week Scottish Carer Supplement, and any £10.40 a week Carer Additional Person Payment, rather than three separate credits (mygov.scot, https: //www.mygov.scot/carer-support-payment, checked 30 October 2026). Our Carer’s Allowance guide sets the two systems side by side.
What if my Carer’s Allowance payment does not arrive?
Check the table above first, because a Monday payment in the week of a bank holiday will usually have arrived the previous Thursday or Friday. If the date was an ordinary working day, the Carer’s Allowance Unit is the place to ask.
A payment that stops rather than moves is a different matter. A change in circumstances, reported or not, could be behind it. Our contact page lists the nine changes you must report and the two thresholds for a break in caring, because reporting a change late is one of the reasons GOV.UK gives for having to repay money.
