The short version: we do not ask who you are, and we do not track you around the internet.
Who we are
Later Life Guide is the data controller for the information described on this page. You can write to us at 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX, or email info@laterlifeguide.co.uk. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
What we collect
Almost nothing, and nothing at all unless you choose to give it. There are no accounts and no sign-up. Our guides and tools are built to answer your question on the page without asking for a name, an email address or a telephone number. The one exception is the email reminder service described below, which is optional and which you have to ask for.
Our deadline tracker and entitlements checker work entirely inside your browser. The dates and answers you type are never sent to us, and we could not see them if we wanted to.
Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages keep short-term technical logs — the address of the page requested, the time, and general information about the browser and country. Those logs are handled by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and are used to keep the site working and to defend it from attack. We do not use them to build a picture of you.
Advertising and tracking
There are no advertising networks on this site and no sponsored content. We do not sell, rent or share data about our readers, because we do not gather any worth selling.
We do use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful, and you should know that before you decide how you feel about it. It is set up in the most restricted way the tool allows: storage consent is denied before the script is permitted to run, which means it writes no cookies and stores nothing at all on your device. Your IP address is anonymised.
That is why you have not been shown a cookie banner. There are no cookies to ask you about, so there is nothing to consent to and no reason to interrupt you. What we can see is aggregate: which pages were read, roughly where in the world the reader was, and which site or search tool sent them. We cannot see who you are, and we cannot follow you from one visit to the next.
Google is a third party and receives that page-view information as the processor of it. If you would rather block it entirely, any tracker blocker or your browser's do-not-track setting will stop it, and every page on this site works exactly the same without it. If our use of analytics ever changes, this page changes first and says so plainly.
Email deadline reminders
The deadline tracker can email you before each date. This is optional. The tracker gives you the same answers without it, and you can download the dates to your own calendar or print them instead, in which case we never see anything.
If you do ask for reminders, we store your email address, your first name if you give one, and the dates and what each one is for. That is everything. We do not ask for your age, your address, your income, your health or which benefits you receive.
We want to be straightforward about one thing. Because a reminder says what it is about — a Blue Badge renewal, for instance — the list of dates does indicate the sort of help you are dealing with. Under data protection law that counts as information about your health, even though we never ask about your health. That is why we ask you to tick a box that says so plainly, rather than hiding it in this page.
Why we are allowed to hold it: because you asked us to, and for no other reason. In the language of the law, our lawful basis is your consent, and your explicit consent for the health-related part. You can take that back at any moment.
Confirming it is you: nothing is sent until you click a link in a confirmation email. If nobody clicks, we delete what was entered after seven days. This stops anyone signing up somebody else.
How long we keep it: each reminder is deleted automatically 30 days after its date passes. We do not archive it. If you stop your reminders, your address is deleted straight away rather than kept on a suppression list.
Who else sees it: nobody. The information sits with our hosting provider, Cloudflare, who process it on our instructions and do nothing else with it. We do not sell it, share it, or pass it to any adviser or introducer. It is not used for marketing, and there is no marketing list to be added to.
Stopping them: every email has a one-click link. No password, no form, no reason needed. Clicking it deletes your address and every reminder attached to it.
Your rights
Where we hold anything about you, you have the right to ask for a copy of it, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to what we do with it, and to receive it in a portable form. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and doing so does not make anything we did beforehand unlawful.
Ask by emailing info@laterlifeguide.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is nothing to pay.
Giving us any of this is entirely voluntary. It is not required by law or by any contract, and nothing on this site is withheld from you for refusing. We do not make any automated decisions about you and we do not profile you.
If you think we have handled your information badly, please tell us so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, and you do not have to raise it with us first.
