What one benefit unlocks
Some help arrives because you applied for it. Some arrives because you already receive something else, and nobody writes to tell you. Pension Credit on its own opens eight other things, including a free TV licence once you are 75.
Tick something above and what follows from it appears here.
Why the small award is the wrong thing to judge
People work out that Pension Credit would pay them a few pounds a week, decide it is not worth the paperwork, and stop. That arithmetic is the most expensive mistake in this part of the benefits system, because the payment is rarely the prize.
Any amount of Pension Credit, even a few pence, is the key that turns the others. A free TV licence at 75 is worth more over a year than many small awards. Council Tax Reduction can be worth more again.
Claiming one does not cost you another
The fear that claiming something will quietly reduce something else keeps people from applying, and in the cases on this page it is unfounded. Attendance Allowance is ignored as income when Pension Credit is worked out, and GOV.UK says an award could get you extra Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.
What this map deliberately leaves out
Only links we have checked against an official source appear here. A free bus pass, concessionary travel and help from a council hardship fund are all real, and all set locally or by nation, so no single national rule can honestly be stated for them.
An empty space on this page is our gap rather than your answer. Your council is the place to ask about anything it decides itself.
Common questions
What are passported benefits?
Help you become entitled to because you already receive something else, rather than because you applied for it separately. Pension Credit is the biggest example: receiving any amount of it opens Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, NHS help and a free TV licence at 75.
Does claiming one benefit reduce another?
Not in the cases shown here, and often the opposite. Attendance Allowance is ignored as income when Pension Credit is calculated, and GOV.UK states an award could get you extra Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction rather than less.
Why is my council tax discount or bus pass not listed?
Because those are set locally and vary by area, so no single national rule can be stated. We only list links we have checked against an official source. An empty space is a gap in what we have verified, not proof that nothing exists.
How is this different from your entitlements checker?
The checker is for someone who does not know where to start, and asks about your circumstances. This is for someone already receiving something who does not know it entitles them to more. Different question, different moment, so the two tools do not overlap.
